GameOver: Yamaha Tops in Dependability

GameOver: Yamaha Tops in Dependability

MM-3ReasonsAfter more than 3,200 hours and 50,600 miles on his triple Yamaha 225 four-strokes, nothing says dependability like taking home first place and $25,000 in cash and prizes during the Ed Dwyer’s Otherside Invitational out of Port Canaveral.  That’s exactly the statement that Orlando-based angler Gary Griffin and his team made after besting a field of 25 other boats to weigh in three yellowfin tuna totaling 225.4 pounds.

The invitation-only event—celebrating its 15th year—saw anglers travel up to 150 miles each way, using radar to locate flocks of feeding birds over schools of busting yellowfin tuna.

Griffin says his outboard power was key to the win.

“We couldn’t have done it without our Contender and Yamaha four-strokes,” says Griffin. “With this tournament, we topped 50,600 miles on the boat since we’ve owned it. There’s 3,200 hours on the engines, and they’re still going strong.”

Griffin’s 16-year-old son, Wyatt, took top skipjack tuna honors with a 7.9-pounder.

Celebrating its 15th year, the 100-percent payback tournament awarded more than $12,500 in cash and prizes while raising more than $4,000 to benefit research into Crohn’s disease with raffle item donations from a number of leading marine manufacturers and retailers.

“We’ll be back next year, and at this point I can’t see switching out or upgrading power,” says Griffin. “These Yamaha four-strokes have done everything I’ve asked and more. I couldn’t be happier. And the proof of quality, reliability, and dependability is in this win. We fished against some great teams and fishermen, but Yamaha definitely brought it home for us.”

But for those that know anything about marine power, this story shouldn’t come as a surprise. There have been some amazing stories illustrating Yamaha’s commitment to excellence and dependability—there’s the family that’s been handing down the same Yamaha outboard for more than 25 years. The fishing guide who went 15 years without downtime. The guys who spent five days fishing the Florida Keys without refueling. And then, there are Scott Connelly, Chip Deaton, and Tim Boczon and their 8,700-hour Yamaha F150s.
